Her recent operatic performances have included Nérine in Charpentier’s Médée and the cover of Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben for Chicago Opera Theater. Bowie was a finalist the Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition in Germany. She is a recipient of the Lynne Harvey Music Scholarship from the Musicians Club of Women. Georgia-born Leila Bowie is quickly gathering acclaim for her “rich and warm soprano” ( Times Argus Vermont) and vocal ability intertwined with her “crisp diction and expressive passion” ( Musical America Worldwide). She is an advocate for contemporary composers and has appeared in recital in wide-ranging repertoire. Strauss’ Die Fledermaus with Vero Beach Opera. Other recent projects include World Premiere of George Flynn’s Chicago Poet’s Sing! and Songs of Destruction with New Music DePaul, Mozart’s Requiem with Marion Philharmonic and singing Strauss’ Vier Letzte Lieder with Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra and the roles of Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute with Sugar Creek Opera and Adele in J. Her operatic performances have included such roles as La Contessa in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro for Candid Concert Opera, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan Tutte for the Green Mountain Opera Festival in Vermont, and Beth in Adamo’s Little Women for Sugar Creek Opera. Calling Chicago home, Leila Bowie made her Orchestra Hall debut in “Beyond the Score: Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben” with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and appeared as First Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute with Chicago Opera Theater.
